X-rays, Foxgloves and Cotton Wool: Medical History Tour of Birmingham

The tour will start in central Birmingham, at the site of the 1st General Hospital (opened in 1779). We will visit different locations across central Birmingham that help to tell the fascinating story of Birmingham’s medical history. This will include understanding how medical education started and progressed in Birmingham. There are many fascinating figures in Birmingham’s medical history and we will discover who those are and visit the locations they worked at. On the 1st tour (18 Sept) we will come face to face with one of those figures.

The tour is led for the 2nd year by Dr James Burgess. Chair of the Birmingham History Society and host of the Birmingham History Podcast. James has a real passion for Birmingham’s intriguing medical history.

How to get there:
The starting location can be accessed easily by all modes of transport. We will end close to Birmingham New Street railway station and there is excellent train and bus links in that area.
