What Was Lost

A meditation on the surviving slivers and vestiges of archaeological evidence found in familiar streets that together tell an intriguing (if invisible) Birmingham story—a city noted for its frequent and careless losses. Expect to encounter remnants of signs, design details, decorative features, pubs, shops, manufactured goods and, of course, Duran Duran. Navigating several distinctly non-tourist side streets in Digbeth, What Was Lost is the counterpart of a sight-seeing guided heritage tour, with participants being encouraged to observe keenly our discoveries along the way, and to work loose their hesitant stories. The walk ends at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Walk guided by Ben Waddington.

The walk borrows its name from Catherine O’Flynn’s 2007 novel.
