Birmingham Conservation Trust is pleased to announce that the Golden Lion, still in a ruinous state less than one year ago, has been restored and saved from looming collapse. The timber framed building, dating back to the early 1600s, has been repaired using traditional materials and methods and is once again wind & watertight and structurally sound.
We will open the doors for you to go inside and see what has been achieved and to hear about the restoration project and what the plans are for the next phase to bring this building back into use.
The event will be ‘free-flow’ and no booking is required. You can drop in any time between 2pm and 5pm. If at times it is very busy you may have to wait before you can enter the building. Members of the project team will be on site to answer your questions and provide short mini tours.
How to get there:
The Golden Lion is a timber framed building in Cannon Hill Park, not too far from the bandstand. From Russell Road car park, aim for the bandstand from where the Golden Lion is visible. When walking from the Midland Art Centre (MAC) the building is on the other side of the lake. Car parking (paid) is at the MAC and at the Russell Road carpark. Public transport: bus 1 (Edgbaston Road), bus 35 (Willows Road), bus 45/47 (Pershore Road/cricket ground). The exact location of the Golden Lion is here
