The Cosy Cinema & Kings Heath’s Lost Picture Houses – exhibition

The building that •nook• calls home was also once Kings Heath’s very first cinema.  We are still uncovering its history and are excited to share our discoveries so far.

This exhibition explores the wider story of Kings Heath’s lost cinemas through archive photographs, stories and historical material. Alongside these forgotten picture houses, visitors can discover the fascinating, though short-lived, story of the Kings Heath Picture House (later the Cosy Cinema), which opened on this site in 1911.

The exhibition includes archive material kindly provided by Flatpack, historical research by Ben Waddington and additional research by the •nook• team.

To discover more about the forgotten history of the Cosy Cinema itself, join ‘Get Cosy’ – an illustrated talk by Ben Waddington, followed by an optional film screening of The Black Chancellor, which showed at the Cosy in 1914. (Thursday 17/09 6pm. Booking essential)

The exhibition can be explored at your own pace during •nook• gallery opening hours.

How to get there:
Bus 50, 35, 11, 27, 76 (2-5 min walk). Kings Heath train station (12 min walk). Pay & display car park / Street parking (1min walk).
