Explore St Chad’s church and learn about its history and that of the earlier “tin hut”, as the local community prepares to celebrate the centenary of its building next year. Relax with a cuppa while you are here.
The church is grade II listed and was built by Messrs. Bateman & Co. and was completed in 1927. The relatively plain exterior hides an u surprising interior; an impressive barrel roof supported on steel columns, faced in Hornton stone to give a rustic and aged look. High above the alter is another unusual feature, a large, carved and decorated canopy. Below this is a beautiful stained-glass window, the Ansell window, dedicated to the Ansell family (with brewing connections), who were generous patrons and members of the church.
The church has a car park and is on the main bus route out of Walmley.
