Hockley Circus Murals

A walking tour of the mural walls designed and created by William Mitchell in the sunken concourse beneath Hockley Flyover, known as Hockley Circus.   The murals are a superb example of surviving twentieth century public art incorporated into transport infrastructure.   Bertram Wearing, designed the flyover in the 1960s to relieve local traffic congestion. William Mitchell, a sculptor was commissioned to design three murals, the details of which include abstract patterns in relief form, geometric, sunburst and motifs completed from cast pigmented concrete.
