Crafternoons

In this free craft session, you will make your own sculpture out of recycled cardboard and craft materials. You can also have a go at writing your own object label, before placing your artwork on a plinth with a Perspex display case to photograph it, to make your work into a gallery exhibit.

We are exploring heritage for this session, so bring along your ideas of what that word means to you and how you can show that in a sculpture and its gallery label.

Crafternoons is a free, drop-in social event every Friday, 12 – 4pm. It is an opportunity to try out a new craft or art technique, or to practice the skills that you’ve already got in a calm social environment. You can expect drop-in sessions that will have you sketching museum objects, crafting decorations, or learning a new printing technique.  The sessions will often be themed around a gallery or event going on at the museum, so there will always be time to have a look around before and after.

Suitable for all ages. Children must be supervised by an adult. The activity takes place in the Industrial Gallery on Level 2.

Access – The lift entrance is on Edmund Street, near the bridge. The activity takes place on Level 2. Turn left as you exit the lift, then go through the Ozzy Osbourne Gallery.  Turn left at the statue of the angel, go through the shop into the Industrial Gallery. The activity will take place past the stairs on the tables to the right. Ear defenders are available if you would like a quieter visit.
