Bournville Village Primary School

We invite you to visit our beautiful school, including George Hall, frescoes, and the historical school archives. Bournville Village Primary School, a cornerstone of Bournville’s educational heritage, is proudly participating in the 2026 Bournville Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 12th September. This event offers a unique opportunity for visitors to explore the school’s rich history and architectural significance, as well as our vast school archives.

The school was constructed between 1902 and 1905 and designed by architect William Alexander Harvey and stands as a testament to the Cadbury family’s commitment to education for all. The Grade II-listed building showcases Arts and Crafts design elements, featuring red brick with stone dressings. Visitors are invited to admire the central hall, illuminated by dormer windows and adorned with frescoes painted in 1914 by muralist and suffragist Mary Sargant Florence and illustrator Mary Creighton McDowall. These frescoes depict biblical scenes, and the hall’s intricate wood carvings are the work of sculptor Benjamin Creswick.

This event is part of Bournville Heritage Open Day. For a full list of events in Bournville, click here.
