A disreputable history of Birmingham’s Newhall Estate

Many are aware of the growth of the Newhall Estate, built following a private Act of Parliament obtained in 1746 by Anne Colmore, but this is only part of the story.

This illustrated talk by John Townley, independent researcher, follows the story of how the Colmores acquired the De Birmingham land that was to become Newhall, why it ended up in Anne Colmore’s hands and who inherited it?  A tale of deception, embezzlement, family mistrust and aristocratic debauchery.

After the talk there will be an opportunity to see some of the original documents used to research this story.
