A Changing Landscape: Moseley Village and Its Unusual Park

The creation of Salisbury Road in the late 19th century cut the grounds of Moseley Hall in half and created the new Moseley Park and Pool. Plant Scientist Trevor Hocking leads this morning’s stroll from the newly transformed landscape of Moseley Station to the historic landscapes of this unusual city park. You’ll explore how this distinctive heritage site and its environs have changed over the years, and how that’s impacted the Park’s flora and fauna (with a particular focus on its trees).

The walk is a chance to consider how the activities in the Park and beyond have influenced the current landscape, with its lake, woodland and meadows — and how that landscape may be maintained, protected and developed in the future.

About the walk:
– This event takes place outdoors – please wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather and bring some water.

– Accessibility: This event is designed to move around the park: the route through Moseley is wheelchair accessible, as are some of our pathways and areas used in the park. This activity can be partially adjusted for the needs of people using wheelchairs and mobility aids, but there may be some sections that remain inaccessible. Please get in touch as far in advance as possible on community@moseleypark.co.uk or  by WhatsApp message on 07882 003 966 to  let us know your access needs so we can do our best to accommodate them.

– Children are welcome but must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times: the content isn’t designed for children, so younger children may get bored.

This walk ties in with The Moseley Society opening the park and its 18th century icehouse for Birmingham Heritage Week: the main Alcester Rd entrance will be open to the public 11am-1pm on Saturday 19th and 2-5pm on Sunday 20th. Why not visit the icehouse and learn more from The Moseley Society’s knowledgeable team of volunteers?

How to get there:
Trains run every half hour. Buses 50, 35 and 1 stop nearby. Moseley Village car park is 5 mins walk away from the start and end points.
