Open Church at St Alban the Martyr
Victorian Gothic Church opened in 1881, designed by John Loughborough Pearson, with spectacular stone vaulting and fine Arts-and-Crafts altar piece by Birmingham artists Kate and Myra Bunce.
Visitors can look round with guide cards and leaflets or take a free guided tour (when a volunteer guide is available).
Step-free access to the church and a bicycle rack for cyclists are available via the side entrance on Stanhope Street and we are close to the Rea Valley cycle route. There is usually ample room for street parking around the church, except at Lunchtime on Fridays.
The church is inside the Birmingham Clean Air Zone, so drivers of more polluting vehicles will be liable to pay a charge. Toilets available (including wheelchair-friendly). We hope to provide tea and coffee Thursday to Sunday if enough volunteers are available. Free leaflets are available in the church for a heritage trail around the parish of 1.2, 1.6 or 2 miles (2, 2.6 or 3.2 km).
No admission charge, but donations for church restoration welcomed.
