Moor Pool Estate Heritage Tour

Join us for a fascinating heritage walking tour and discover the Moor Pool Garden Suburb, a hidden gem less than three miles from Birmingham City Centre. This guided outdoor tour explores the history, architecture and community life of the Moor Pool Estate, with regular stops along the route to learn more about its origins and development.

Following his passion for high quality housing for all, John Sutton Nettlefold commissioned the architects Martin and Martin to create this Garden Suburb at the beginning of the twentieth century. Integral to the Estate’s plan were the communal facilities, many of which remain in regular use today.

The Moor Pool Estate is the perfect combination of heritage and community. Come along on our guided tour to learn more about Nettlefold and his ideas, and immerse yourself in this perfectly preserved Garden Suburb, designed in the Arts and Crafts style. Experience the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful haven, and discover the historic sporting clubs, many of which continue up to the present day. The tour will include visits to some of these historic facilities, including the original Snooker Club and Bowling Green. The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours and conclude in the original Edwardian skittle alley!

Please assemble outside the front of Moor Pool Hall on The Circle at 12.50pm. This is an outdoor event, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather and conditions. The route includes some steps and other uneven surfaces. Street parking is available but limited as the streets are very narrow. Parking is also available on Ravenhurst Road and nearby Harborne High Street, which is a 10 minute walk from Moor Pool.

Spaces for this walking tour are strictly limited to 18 per group. Moor Pool Heritage Trust does not run a regular schedule of heritage walks around the Moor Pool Estate, so this is a rare opportunity to take part in a guided tour. Please book early to secure your place and avoid disappointment!
