The trail starts at the Woodman pub, next to the proposed HS2 terminus at Curzon Street. An introduction of the activities of James and Lister Lea will be given at the start. James and Lister Lea was a prominent architectural firm founded by two Birmingham brothers in the 19th century. At each pub your guides James and Pete will discuss its unique history and architecture. There will be an opportunity to purchase cobs/snacks and have a drink in each pub. No drinks or food are provided in the ticket price.
We will journey down the canal into Deritend to see The Anchor and The White Swan. The trail goes past the now derelict Market Tavern, which will be discussed. The tour ends at The Wellington Hotel, which is close to many transport options. The entire route is approximately 2 miles. Join to celebrate the wonderful work of James and Lister Lea and meet some new people!
Your guides will be James Burgess, Chair of the Birmingham History Society and host of the Birmingham History Podcast. Also Pete Norris, founder of the successful social networking group, Birmingham People. Both your guides are passionate about heritage pubs but also the work of James and Lister Lea.
How to get there: The Woodman and the Wellington are relatively close to the major rail stations (Moor Street and New Street) in the centre of Birmingham.
