In search of the ‘lost’ churches of Birmingham

We start off our journey by uncovering a ‘lost’ church nearby. From the evidence available at the site, we delve into who likely worshipped here. The history of the church and the area will be unravelled.  To continue the search we will walk by the canal to Digbeth and then land upon our only abandoned church with an intriguing story. We then encounter two further sites. These are associated with a 16th century Protestant martyr and a 19th century Catholic saint. The tour will move closer to the centre of Birmingham to discover three further sites. We will discuss what is known about the ‘lost’ priory and the church associated with the famous printer John Baskerville. The entire route is approximately 3 miles and we will walk at a gentle pace.

The tour is led by James Burgess. Chair of the Birmingham History Society and host of the Birmingham History Podcast
