Heritage Craft at the Hive

Birmingham and the Midlands has a significant heritage of chain making, which formed part of the 1000 Trades it was known for. We’re exploring chain making for Jewellery in these workshops. Learn more about the process of chain making, experiment with a wide variety of shapes, and design and make your own copper or brass chain with the Hive’s resident jeweller, Julie Smith of Star 23.

Part of our wider heritage craft programme June 2026 to May 2027, featuring a different craft each month. Follow the programme, and book more events on our website

All materials supplied. Suitable for beginner and intermediate skill sets, 15+. We will use cold connections to make the chains, but soldering can be arranged with Julie in a separate workshop.
