Bournville Village Primary School
See the central hall decorated with frescoes depicting biblical scenes. Please note the school will close at 1500.
Built between 1902 & 1905 and designed by William Alexander Harvey, this Grade II listed school consists of red brick with stone dressings.
Fringed by classrooms, you will be able to visit the central hall which is lit by dormer windows on the roof. The hall rises from lance curved braces and there are frescoes of 1914 by a mural painter and suffragist, Mary Sargant Florence and illustrator of “A Detached Observer,” Mary Creighton McDowall, depicting scenes from the Bible. The carving throughout is by artist and sculptor, Benjamin Creswick.
Some records will be a available to view. This event is part of Bournville Heritage Open Day. Many other historic sites in the wider Bournville area open their doors on Sat 9 Sept. For a full list of events in Bournville, click here.
