Birmingham’s C20 Churches – the radical designs of Richard Gilbert Scott
Join us to explore and celebrate two of Birmingham’s grade II listed churches. We will visit Our Lady Help of Christians (Kitts Green) and St Thomas More (Sheldon). Designed by Richard Gilbert Scott of the famous architect family, these stunning churches demonstrate the way architects in the 1960s made innovative use of new materials to create radical designs. Stained glass by John Chrestien in both churches provides exciting examples of modernist design using eye-popping vibrant colour and original church furniture complements the overall modernist aesthetic of both churches.
We will visit each of the churches for about an hour. We have allowed half an hour for travel between them. Travel to and between the churches will be the responsibility of those attending. Travel time between the churches is a 10 min. drive by car, a 46 min. walk or the no. 72 bus runs close to both churches on its route to Solihull. There is parking at both churches.
The tour starts at 12.30pm at Our Lady Help of Christians.
