This special event offers an introduction to our Archives, revealing the stories, people and plants that have shaped the Gardens over time. It will start with an introduction to BBG Archive and the type of photographic records in the Archives, followed by a unique opportunity to handle different photographs featuring Gardens’ sites.
We envision a future where the Archive extends beyond its walls, inviting visitors to explore the fascinating history of the Gardens. From the dedication of past horticulturists to the many events that have taken place here, every document tells part of a shared story both of the Gardens and of Birmingham itself.
Through engaging experiences, we aim to inspire curiosity and discovery in visitors of all ages, encouraging a deeper connection with the Gardens and the community it serves.
This event is brought about by Propagating Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Story, funded by an ‘Archives Revealed’ Cataloguing Grant. The programme is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Pilgrim Trust, the Wolfson Foundation and The National Archives.
