BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is an authentic Hindu temple in the heart of Birmingham.

A ‘mandir’, the traditional name for a Hindu temple, is a sacred place of Hindu worship, representing the earthly home of God. It forms part of a tradition that stretches back millennia, with its origins in ancient India. 

Visitors and devotees come here to offer prayers before the ‘murtis’, or sacred images infused with the divine presence of the deities and participate in both personal and communal worship – or simply to meditate and find peace. It is a place of daily devotion, weekly assemblies and classes, regular festivals and celebrations for the whole family, and year-round engagement with the local community.

BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir welcomes people of all faiths, ages and backgrounds to enjoy the traditional Indian architecture as well as to learn about and experience the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of Hinduism – the oldest and the third largest religion in the world.

Parking: Free parking available for cars.

Shoes: It is customary to remove footwear upon entering any part of the Mandir complex. Shoe racks are provided within the complex.

Dress Code: Please note that a strict dress code operates within the complex. Specifically, tops must cover the shoulders, chest, navel, and upper arms. Leg-wear must be at least below knee-length.

Filming & Photography: Videos and photos using a mobile phone – for personal use only – may be taken from ground level outside the Mandir, but no photography or filming is allowed inside.

Food & Drink: No food or drink is allowed on the premises. Please discard chewing gum prior to entering.

Children: Children are welcome. Visitors aged 16 or under must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Pets: No pets are allowed within the complex. Assistance dogs accompanying disabled visitors will be looked after in a quiet place by a volunteer, while visitors will be provided a personal chaperon/guide to enjoy their visit of the Mandir.
