Date your Postbox
Although the red pillar box is a distinctive part of the streetscape, we very rarely pay it much attention – not even when posting a letter. But your local post box might be a rare gem; it might be Victorian or distinctively modern, a familiar red pillar box or a less common wall box. Whatever the shape, all post boxes have one thing in common; the cipher showing who was on the throne when the box was installed.
As part of #BHeritageWeek, why not have a closer look at your local post box (or any other), take a photo and post it on social media with street location and tagged with #BHeritageWeek. Your discoveries will be uploaded to our map showing post boxes in Birmingham dating from the reign of Queen Victoria to Elizabeth II.
