Early Tyseley Open Days

Relive the late 60s and early 70s by seeing what our open days were like in the past.

This short video is offered by Vintage Trains. Vintage Trains is unique in being the only publicly owned, charity-controlled Train Operating Company with a vision to continue to run steam locomotives on the national network to world class destinations such as Stratford, Oxford and York. Also, uniquely, we are based in Tyseley in the heart of the great industrial city where the industrial revolution began and which is also now the city with Europe’s youngest population, drawn from all corners of the world.

Our mission is to create a main line heritage railway company for everyone, preserving the skills of the steam age to enable our collection of express steam trains to have a sustainable future and a real purpose working in everyday service as a tourism business. One of our successes is the Polar Express Train Ride (in franchise with Warner Bros) which to date carried 50,000 visitors, all boarding a vintage steam train in the heart of Birmingham.

To find out more about Vintage Trains, about what we do and our opportunities for volunteering and apprenticeships or just a nice day out, visit our website.
