A pre-recorded virtual guided tour around parts of this 1841 Augustus Welby Pugin-built Gothic Revival Convent of the Sisters of Mercy. The tour lasts around 45 minutes and some of the resident Sisters and lay Archivist show you parts of the cloister, chapel, gardens and the bedroom of the Venerable Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy. Whilst offering the chance to see some of the exterior and interior of the building, narration is also provided regarding the story of the Sisters of Mercy in Birmingham, offering a small insight into Catholic religious life from the 1830s-2000s. Reference is also made to historic connections with notable Catholic individuals and families of the 19th century, including the Hardmans of stained glass fame.
