Spring Hill Library
During your visit you will be able to see an exhibition on the history of Spring Hill Library and a photographic display by local historian Norman Bartlam. We also have a collection of items made in Ladywood and the Jewellery Quarter.
Spring Hill Library opened in 1893 and is one of the oldest of the original Birmingham branch libraries. The library was designed by Frederick Martin of Martin and Chamberlain and is a fine example of Victorian Gothic, retaining many of the original features. The gas light fittings and the clock made by Evans and Sons of Handsworth are two of the features that can still be seen today. There is a mural of the library produced by Jackie Nash and the users of the library on display. It was produced in 2011.
There will be a display on the history of the library and the local area and there will be impromptu guides by staff throughout the day.
