Wholesale Memory – Everything Must Go
Wholesale Memory Hub, Centre Block Wholesale Markets Precinct, Pershore St, Birmingham B5 6UL
Smithfield has hosted markets for over 900 years, and is often said to be the birthplace of the city of Birmingham. In early 2018 the site will be demolished with the Wholesale Markets being relocated, ending almost a millenium of historical markets on the site, creating the largest development in the city since the Bullring. Take this last chance to experience the markets, their history and unique culture through an interactive exhibition, featuring unique artefacts, interviews with traders, and archive and contemporary photography hosted in the markets precinct itself. Book yourself onto one of our guided tours of the wholesale market (for early risers only, starting at 6am) or the Sunday market – the largest car boot sale in the Midlands and a unique social nexus with a culture all of its own. While stocks last.
Because Everything Must Go. See our website for full details and how to book for tours and special events.
