Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Prince Lazar – Bournville Heritage Open Day
Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Prince Lazar, 92 Griffins Brook Lane, Bournville, Birmingham B30 1QG
Lazarica Church, Birmingham is one of many Serbian Orthodox churches devoted to the medieval Serbian ruler, St Lazar. It is the first purpose-built Serbian church in the United Kingdom, built by exiled Serbs and their supporters in England with the exceptional help of the philanthropic Cadbury family, together with the late Sir Alfred Owen and his family. It is evidence and a reminder of the strength and power of faith. Those who came to Great Britain after the Second World War, who lost all their earthly possessions, their friends, relatives, even their homeland, brought with them their faith and the need to follow the example of Jesus Christ and St Lazar.
With their priest the Very Reverend Archpriest Father Milenko Zebić, they built this magnificent temple for all their spiritual needs and those of future generations. Presentations explaining the background of the Church and its founding members, along with traditional Serbian dancing & food and a short film on Serbian culture will all be available on the day.
In addition the church’s precious relics and the stone from the tomb of Jesus Christ from Jerusalem will be on display. You will be able to see / venerate the relics of: St. Lazar of Serbia; St. Patrick of Ireland; St. Barbara mort; St. Cecilia mort; St. Felix mort and St. Panteleimonos.
No booking required.
