Event info
Join us on a special tour of the Hive Heritage Hub and New Standard Works – Explore our magnificent four storey, grade II listed building in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter.
The Hive Heritage Hub is the newest edition to the New Standard Works building, offering a ‘hands on’ experience to heritage, and seeks to tell some of the hidden histories of the building and wider JQ, including women, children, disabled workers and migration.
Throughout Heritage Open Days, in the Hub will offer free craft sessions, themed around products made in the building. We will also be opening up our basement and walk-in safe, for a special art instillation. As you descend into the dark, projected onto the walls will be trade catalogues, and pictures from newspaper clippings to create an amazing animation by artist Annette Bowery.
On the 8th and 15th of September, there will be a chance to see the whole building through special tours, including the urban roof top micro-farm, which provides organic produce for the café and is maintained by the students. On hand will be our Horticulture tutor, who will offer all the advise you need to start your own biodynamic micro-farm.
