DRAWINGS REVEALED: An exhibition of unique and original architectural drawings from the West Midlands Region.
Birmingham & Midland Institute Reception
9 Margaret St, Birmingham B3 3BS
Birmingham & Five Counties Architectural Association (B&FCAA) holds over 800 unique individual drawings within its collection. This features built and unbuilt work by some of the most well-known and challenging architects of the past century including Future Systems (Selfridges at the Bull Ring) and John Madin (Central Library, Chamber of Commerce), alongside work by students and graduates of the Birmingham School of Architecture from the 1930s onward.
DRAWINGS REVEALED will give members of the public access to view a selection of the drawings along with other material from the B&FCAA collection for the first time in many years as part of Birmingham’s Heritage Week 2017. This will be complimented by creative responses to the collection by students of the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design, along with access to the whole archive, digitized and launched last year at www.bfcaa.uk.
In collaboration with other societies in the city, we propose to run an opening event and lecture to contextualise the collection in broader debates around heritage in the city. The exhibition is free to attend and is located within the reception area of the Birmingham & Midland Institute. It will be accessible during the Institute’s normal opening hours.
